
Doran commenced practice at the Johannesburg Bar in 1994 where he had a busy commercial litigation practice before migrating to Australia to take up a position at Blake Dawson in the Insolvency & Restructuring Group in February 2004.
In 2005, he joined Henry Davis York as a senior associate in the Banking & Finance Group.
He returned to the Bar in September 2005 and remains in practice as a barrister and a member of the New South Wales Bar Association.
He holds chambers at Blackstone Chambers, a commercial set of chambers whose head of chambers is Tom Hughes AO QC.
Although Doran has a general commercial practice, his practice focuses upon corporations law and in particular corporate insolvency.
He has appeared in a 108 day hearing in the Commercial List of the Supreme Court arising out of the collapse of an Australian reinsurer, NewCap.
Doran regularly appears in insolvent trading actions, unfair preference recoveries as well as for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
